Below is a preview of the silent auction items for ELQ’s 50th Anniversary Banquet on Friday, April 22, 2022 (Earth Day).
Bidding starts at 5:30pm and for items whose starting bid is less than $100, we will end the auction at 6:10pm. For those items whose starting bid is greater than $100, the auction will end at 8:30pm. All proceeds, except where noted otherwise, will go towards funding ELQ Summer Fellowships for public interest students. Donations for this fund can be made here:

ELQ Gear for Sale
We will have for sale some of the ELQ t-shirts from past years! We have 4 extra shirts and 3 extra tanks from this past year as well as a number of tie-dye t-shirts from 2020. On top of this, we have 5 sweatshirts with the current year’s design for sale. T-shirts can be purchased for $25 and Sweatshirts can be purchased for $50. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
We have two ELQ Board Member Patagonia jackets available for auction–one is dark blue / black size M and the other is grey size L. These are Patagonia half-zip jackets and they are embroidered with “Ecology Law Quarterly Editorial Board” on the front left side. The bidding will start for each of these jackets at $150. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Gilman Brewing Gift Cards
Gilman Brewing has generously donated two $25 gift cards to support ELQ’s auction. Gilman brewing has locations in Berkeley, Daly City, and Pleasanton. They are known for award winning beers, wood fired pizzas, large plates, and fun trivia nights. The bidding for each of these gift cards will start at $20. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Berkeley Bowl – Gift Card
Berkeley Bowl has generously donated a $30 gift card to support ELQ’s auction. Berkeley Bowl was established in 1977 and soon developed a cult following for their fresh produce, natural foods, and high quality of service. You’ll often see Berkeley Bowl mentioned by cookbook authors in their ingredients sections. This gift card can be used to purchase anything in the store with the exception of alcoholic beverages, and must be used all at once. The bidding will start at $25. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Trefethen Family Vineyards – Wine Duo
One of Napa Valley’s pioneering wineries, Trefethen was founded in 1968. This Napa legend remains family owned and committed to the craft of 100% estate grown wines with a focus on sustainability. This package includes one bottle of 2020 Estate Chardonnay and one bottle of 2018 Dragon’s Tooth valued at $115. The bidding will start at $90. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Peet’s Coffee – Coffee Lovers’ Pack
Peet’s Coffee has generously donated a large number of items sure to please any and every coffee drinker. Included in this package is a Chemex coffeemaker, chemex filters, coffee scoop, coffee mug, as well as two coffee blends (Gaia Organic Blend and the Anniversary Blend). This package is worth $142. The bidding will start at $100. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Chateau Chien D’eau – Case of Red Wine (Two lots)
ELQ Alum and Harmon Prize winner Julie Conger J.D. ‘74 has generously donated her 2008 Syrah for the ELQ Banquet. The wine label, “Chateau Chein D’Eau,” is a nod to Julie’s home in the Sonoma Valley and her prizewinning Portuguese Water Dogs. The bidding will start at $150 per case (two cases total). All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Migliavacca Triptych – 3 Bottles of Wine & Wine Tasting
Migliavacca Wine Co. is one of the oldest, most highly regarded vineyards in Napa. The vineyard has generously donated three bottles of wine (Sangiovese, Vermentino, & Rosato) as well as a wine tasting for six at the Migliavacca Mansion in Napa. The bidding will start at $350. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.
Rosé Six-Pack & Rosé Masterclass in Napa
Ambrose Wine has generously donated their Ambrosé Special Edition “Social Distancing” Six-Pack, (six bottles of rosé) with a Rosé Masterclass for six at Madonna Estate in Napa. The “Social Distancing” six-pack is a set of 6 custom labels, only 150 cases produced, in support of the California Nurses Foundation and their RN Response Network.
The bidding will start at $350. All proceeds go towards ELQ Summer Public Interest Fellowships.

High Sierra Wonders by Karen Kramer
Lose yourself in a relaxing landscape at one of California’s loveliest places. This is an original 22”x30” watercolor by Karen Kramer B.A. ’81, an Oakland-based artist whose works celebrate skies, trees, mountains, and wild landscapes. Her work is held in permanent collections in Stanford and Berkeley and has been exhibited in galleries around the country. She previously had a career as a public interest lawyer and as law clerk for Berkeley’s own Judge Thelton Henderson. All proceeds go towards the E&E Futures Fund for Berkeley Law students.
Berkeley Law’s Environmental Awards Banquet is a central tradition in Berkeley Law’s energy and environmental law program and community. Each year it brings together students, faculty, alumni, and other leaders in the environmental and energy law community. The next Banquet will be on Earth Day, April 22, 2022.
2022 will also be the year that Ecology Law Journal (ELQ) will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary! ELQ is a premier student-run law journal published quarterly by UC Berkeley’s School of Law. Since its founding, ELQ has become one of Berkeley Law’s most important student-run institutions.
